The Team
Angela Shaw is an independent curator, researcher, designer and project manager, and the former Executive Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts (2014 - 2025).
Over the past 35 years Shaw has worked across multiple creative disciplines including contemporary visual art, photography, craft, architecture, interiors, product design, artisanal food, and branding and communication.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts from UKZN, an Honours in Curatorship from UCT and a Masters in Curatorial Public and Visual Practice from Wits. Her research focuses on sustainable ecosystems in the creative sector.
Born in Umlazi (eMlazi), Durban, in 1990, Lungelo Mkhize is an art logistics specialist and founder of Section 9 Art Shipping. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He began his art career at Stevenson, where he advanced from Shipping Registrar to Shipping Department Manager, completing international training in art handling and fair logistics with Atelier 4 in Miami.
Since founding Section 9 in 2017, he has worked with galleries, institutions, and collectors locally and internationally, with a focus on strengthening arts infrastructure and opportunities in KwaZulu-Natal.
Niamh Walsh-Vorster is a photographer, writer, and cultural producer with a BJourn from Rhodes University and an MA in Visual Art from the University of Johannesburg. She is Programme Director of the Contemporary Archive Project.
Her work includes curating Power Talks Durban (Goethe-Institut & African Centre for Cities), serving as Media Lead for ArtsResearchLab at KZNSA, and coordinating national projects such as ArtBankSA’s PESP3–5 programmes and Unframed Podcast (Season 4). She has also exhibited her photographic work and completed the BASA Cultural Producers Programme.
Menezes is a photographer and lens-based artist based in Durban, South Africa. His work in documentary photography has allowed him to explore numerous spaces and subject matter both locally and internationally. With a keen interest in the archiving potential of photography, a large portion of his work naturally depicts Durban and KwaZulu-Natal. Paulo is co-founder of Contemporary Archive Project
Commercially; Paulo works in areas including architecture, corporate, travel & lifestyle and photographic reproduction of artworks.
Nzuzenhle Mkhabela
Film ProductionMkhabela is a film and video production professional with over seven years of experience across film, broadcast, and documentary projects. He has worked as Producer and Production Manager on the feature film Might Delete Later (2021), and as a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) on major productions including Mjolo Season 1 (Netflix), 90 Day Fiancé Season 7, and Miles Away. His experience spans camera operation, focus pulling, editing, and sound recording. He has also worked as DOP for ArtsResearchLab projects including IFA Crafted and The Inbetween.
